Finished Westmount living room after the layout transformation

1970s Westmount Beauty · London, Ontario

A 1970s home, opened up and brought forward.

The Westmount transformation reshaped how the home connects, then carried the new direction through flooring, trim, doors, stairs, closets, kitchen and bathroom work.

Westmount Glow-Up

Changing the flow meant starting with the structure.

The old kitchen wall came down to change the relationship between the main living spaces. Temporary support and structural work came first; only then could the walls be closed and the new finish plan move forward.

Steph Hekman shaped the design direction for the project, connecting the layout change with new flooring, trim, doors, stairs, closets and room finishes throughout the home.

  • Kitchen wall opening and layout change
  • Structural support during construction
  • Drywall closure and finish restoration
  • Flooring and stair updates
  • Trim, doors and closets
  • Kitchen and bathroom improvements

From structure to finish

The transformation happened in layers.

These photographs follow the wall opening and the completed living and storage details that helped the 1970s home feel current again.

The work behind the reveal

Open. Support. Close. Finish.

A convincing layout transformation depends on the less glamorous stages being handled in the right order.

01

Open the old layout

Remove finishes and expose the conditions that determine the structural plan.

02

Support the change

Protect the structure while the new opening and required support are completed.

03

Close the walls

Restore drywall and connected surfaces around the new layout.

04

Carry the finish through

Connect flooring, trim, doors, closets, lighting and room details across the home.
